Chapter Seven

If the situation wasn’t so desperate, I would have had a blast at The Flaming Manhole. It was a fabulous bar and the music was terrific—right out of the seventies and eighties. The cliental was joyous and the feeling of acceptance, no matter who you were, was beautiful.

ABBA blasted from the speakers and I grinned when “Take a Chance on Me” came on. In my mind, I pictured my demon on one knee asking me to marry him and fell in love all over again. My mission became even clearer. Keeping Chamunda out of our asses was the goal. One evening of bullshit in Hell surrounded by my posse of friends was worth a lifetime of happiness with Chance.

“Earl won’t do it,” Johnson shouted over the music. “Refuses to wear a dress.”

“He is no longer darling to me,” Connie snapped. “Have the girls found anyone that we can get drunk and kidnap yet?”

“Don’t know,” I said, glancing around. “Lost them when the body surfing started.”

“I see Janet,” Johnson said, pointing to a group doing the Hustle. Janet was in the front.

I shook my head and laughed. Well, at least someone was having fun.

“Swoozie,” Wendy yelled as she and Helen darted over, dragging with them three confused men sporting assless leather chaps and halter tops.

“This is Harry, Larry and Barry,” Helen announced. “They’re werewolves.”

“Okay,” I said. “Are any of them drunk enough to agree to wearing a gown?” It wasn’t all that far of a stretch considering they were sporting halter tops.

“No,” Helen said. “However, they were getting bullied horribly in the men’s room. I flushed a few heads, then brought them over to you.”

I was tempted to ask Helen why she was in the men’s bathroom, but held my tongue.

“It was soooo wonderful,” Wendy confirmed. “Helen was very aggressive and used seven potty words.”

Helen giggled. “I figured since we were in the men’s bathroom potty words were acceptable.”

Both dummies laughed so hard, I joined them. It was absurd. However, as awesome as it was that Helen had saved the guys, it didn’t help the cause.

“It’s nice to meet you, Harry, Larry and Barry, but we have to find someone to kidnap. Maybe we can have a drink some other time.”

“Not so fast,” Wendy said. “While I know we came here to perform a crime, these boys have been bullied viciously for years.”

The three werewolves nodded sadly.

“I told them how you saved our lives and gave us back our self-respect and they’d like to hire you,” she explained.

I was taken aback. I’d helped the gals because they were my new friends and it pissed me off that they’d been hurt by assholes. I didn’t even know Harry, Larry and Barry.

“Umm… I don’t know,” I said hesitantly.

“Please,” Harry begged. “We will pay for your devious and brilliant expertise. You come highly recommended as a kickass badass.”

The compliment was lovely. The prospect was interesting. However, I had issues at hand that had to be dealt with.

“Helen, take down their contact info please,” I instructed.
